🌿 Begonia Care Guide
(Rex, Cane/Angel Wing, Maculata, Wax Begonia & more)
🌤️ Light
Prefers bright, indirect light.
Rex and patterned varieties need good light to maintain vibrant colors.
Avoid direct sun — delicate leaves burn easily.
Too little light = dull color and leggy growth.
💧 Water
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry.
Keep soil slightly moist, but never soggy.
Begonias are prone to root rot if overwatered.
Avoid getting water on leaves — can cause spotting or mildew.
💨 Humidity
Loves higher humidity (50–70%+).
Great for greenhouses or cabinets.
Avoid misting directly — can damage leaves.
Use a humidifier or pebble tray if needed.
🌡️ Temperature
Ideal range: 65–80°F.
Sensitive to cold — avoid drafts and temps below ~60°F.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Needs a light, airy, well-draining mix:
potting soil
perlite
orchid bark or coco coir
Good airflow around roots is key.
Repot every 1–2 years or when crowded.
🌱 Growth & Types
Rex Begonias: grown for foliage, more humidity-sensitive
Cane/Angel Wing: upright growers with spotted leaves
Maculata: iconic polka-dot variety (a cane type)
Wax Begonias: more compact and beginner-friendly
⚠️ Troubleshooting
Crispy edges / leaf browning
Low humidity or inconsistent watering.
Yellowing leaves
Overwatering or poor drainage.
